Yerba mate, i.e. a decoction of dried, ground leaves and sprigs of Paraguay holly, is the national drink in Latin America. The evergreen tree under natural conditions grows only in Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. To obtain an infusion of Yerba Mate, 1.5 tablespoons of dried fruit should be poured with hot water and brewed. Traditionally, Yerba Mate is served in special ceramic vessels, and its preparation is a strict ritual.
